Contact: Kathleen Hudson For Immediate Release KerrvillePlans are well underway for the annual Texas Heritage Living History Day to be held in Louise Hays Park on September 8, from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. This event is now an educational program using stories and songs as another way of learning. The event is produced by volunteers and funded by local businesses and foundations. Over 35 performers and demonstrations will be set up in the park. Educational packages are available to teachers and schools interested in attending. Thanks to a generous donation, transportation grants are available to rural schools, alternative schools and kids at risk. The event is free and the public is invited to participate. Volunteers are still needed to help set up the program. Sponsors are needed to provide food for the performers at noon. "We still need a vendor to sell food at lunch," said Kathleen Hudson, director of the Texas Heritage Music Foundation. "I would like to see a local organization use this as an opportunity to contribute to an educational program and raise money at the same time." Any organizations interested in being involved need to call 367-3750. This year the Pioneer Museum, Institute of Texan Cultures, Institute of the History of Texas Music, Cowboy Artists of America Museum, the YO Ranch, the Texian Heritage Society, and the Nimitz Museum will bring special programming. 30 local performers will add stories and songs with Tony Navarra bringing the annual tribute to Jimmie Rodgers. A western swing tribute to Jimmie will be held at Luckenbach at 8:00 p.m. that same evening, September 8. Tickets $10. Click here to return to the previous page |
