About Kathleen
Kathleen Hudson Kathleen Hudson, Ph.D, is in the English Department at Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas. She founded the THMF in 1987 out of a commitment that stories and songs make a difference in the world. Her background includes a dissertation full of quotations by writers on writing, a weekly newspaper column for over 12 years, a radio series on Texas music for 5 years, a monthly column NOW in On The Road with Kathleen, a book on Texas songwriters based on her oral history project in Texas music (Telling Stories, Writing Songs:  An Album of Texas Songwriters (UT Press/Austin/2001-- order on this site), a passion for teaching (37 years experience) and a passion for collecting the stories. More information here about Kathleen's books

Mother of three children, grandmother of four children, sister of four siblings, daughter of David and Annabel Pillow, Kathleen values family and her research reveals this. She is a certified trainer with an educational program called “The Past is Prologue” and uses the Native American learning story in the classroom and with groups. Each year PIP has an annual conference at Schreiner University in July and a workshop in October. October 16, 2004 is the upcoming date. She is on a new committee at Schreiner to help create a Center for Innovative Learning that will include, among many programs, the PIP program and the Texas Heritage Living History Weekend and coffeehouse series.

Kathleen loves teaching, literature, stories and songs, riding her horse, Brownie, at sunset, dancing, listening to music, poetry, camping, Mexican food, San Miguel de Allende (teaches there each May and January), hot peppers, solitude in her writing cabin, The House of David (named after her father), people, music festivals and more. “Eclectic” has become her middle name. She is currently working on a second collection of interviews with women in Texas music and will be on sabbatical from Schreiner to finish the manuscript in the Fall of 2004. The THMF programs on campus will continue during this sabbatical.

Contact her for programs, consulting, creative workshops, writing seminars, storytelling and presentations on any aspect of Texas music. The THMF office has multi-media presentations available for groups. She loves sharing the story! Kathleen has experience with national conferences (Young Rhetorician’s Conference in California each June), Elderhostel programs, in-service programs for teachers: presentations can range from one hour to a three-day training. Use your imagination  when booking Kathleen for your conference or organization. She teaches technical communication, freshman composition, creative writing, mythology, world literature, advanced composition at Schreiner University.  See faculty page at www.schreiner.edu for more information.
